FREE FOOD BANGOR AREA : PROVIDERS

The Free Food Bangor Area list evolved from a Faith Linking in Action convening we had in January 2022.  The focus of the convening was food access.  Firstly, we took note of the various successes our faith community members had already accomplished: the Ecumenical Food Cupboard and its new walk-in refrigerator at Hammond Street Congregational Church; the Free Drive-Thru Meals at the First United Methodist Church in Bangor;  Ringing Bells and Feeding Souls Food Collection at the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Bangor; and the Holyoke Street Neighborhood Garden at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Brewer. At the small break-out groups we had at the end of the convening we asked “what do we need the most in our communities when it comes to food access?” The resounding collective response was “an up to date list of food pantries and free meals.”

So “Free Food Bangor Area” is what we have compiled. Marc Cryer, Faith Linking in Action Board member and Director of the Bureau of Labor Education at UMO and his team did the research and compiled the Free Food list. Hopefully the list is complete, accurate and up to date, but we are aware that adjustments will need to be made.  We plan on distributing the list to those community organizations that need them the most, such as shelters, churches and hospitals.  All of these organizations, including the free food providers will get periodic updates via email so that an accurate list can be posted, including addresses, contact information, and the schedules and particulars of distribution.

The list will also appear here on our web page with the periodic adjustments.  Calendars based on this list can be found on the Free Food Bangor Area Calendars page on this site.

We hope these tools are helpful and we look forward to your feedback.
